SSC & HSC GPA Calculation Rules
SSC and HSC GPA are calculated according to the official grading system of the Bangladesh Education Board. Here, marks obtained in each subject are converted into grade points, and the final GPA is determined by adding optional subject bonus points to the average points of compulsory subjects.
Which marks get which grade?
| Marks Range | Grade | Grade Point | Comments |
|---|---|---|---|
| 90-100 | A+ | 5.00 | Excellent |
| 80-89 | A | 4.00 | Very Good |
| 70-79 | A- | 3.50 | Good |
| 60-69 | B | 3.00 | Satisfactory |
| 50-59 | C | 2.00 | Average |
| 40-49 | D | 1.00 | Pass |
| 0-39 | F | 0.00 | Fail |
How does the optional subject affect GPA?
Under Bangladesh Education Board rules, if you score 2.00 or above in the optional subject, 2 points are added to your total. So a good score in the optional subject can significantly boost your GPA. No points are added for an F grade.
Example: total points 17.00 in 5 subjects, A (4.00) in optional → (17.00 + 2.00) ÷ 5 = 3.80 GPA. Without optional → 17.00 ÷ 5 = 3.40 GPA.
