Detailed BCS Exam Syllabus
BCS is conducted by BPSC in three stages — Preliminary (200 MCQs), Written (900 marks), and Viva (200 marks). The Preliminary test has 200 MCQs from 9 subjects with 0.50 negative marking per wrong answer.
Bank, Primary & NTRCA — other major exams
Bank jobs (Sonali, Janata, Agrani, Rupali, BB) and Primary Teacher recruitment add specialised subjects on top of the common Bangla-English-Math-GK base. NTRCA's Teacher Registration places extra weight on Pedagogy.
BCS Preliminary subjects and mark distribution
BCS Preliminary is 200 marks, 100 MCQ questions (2 marks each, −0.50 negative). Subjects: Bangla language & literature 35, English language & literature 35, Bangladesh affairs 30, International affairs 20, Geography-environment-disaster 10, General science 15, Computer & IT 15, Mathematics 15, Mental ability 15, Ethics 10.
BPSC's official syllabus defines the sub-topics for each subject. This tracker is organised accordingly — marking which topics you have read shows how much remains.
Effective BCS preparation strategy
Give 4–6 months to BCS preparation. Study at least 3–4 hours daily. Finish weaker subjects first. Take one model test per week. Use this syllabus tracker to always see which chapters remain.
Bangla, English, and Bangladesh affairs together make 100 marks — performing well in these three maximises chances in Preliminary. Mathematics and mental ability require extensive practice.
