What are Bijoy and Unicode? What's the difference?

Bijoy is Bangladesh's oldest and most popular Bangla typing method, built on ANSI encoding and the SutonnyMJ font. Unicode, on the other hand, is an international standard where every Bengali character has a fixed code point (U+0980 to U+09FF). Bijoy text only displays correctly on devices that have the SutonnyMJ font installed, whereas Unicode text renders correctly everywhere — phones, computers, websites, and social media — without needing any special font. That is why Unicode is now the standard for all modern work.

Why do you need to convert Bijoy to Unicode?

Many government offices, old notices, books, news portals, and DTP files are still made in Bijoy (ANSI) encoding. But when you paste that text into Facebook, email, websites, Google Docs, or mobile, it shows up as broken characters or symbols. Converting to Unicode makes the text display perfectly everywhere, become searchable in search engines, and easy to copy-paste. For freelancers, content writers, journalists, students, and office workers, this conversion is a daily necessity.

How to use this converter (step by step)

1. Pick a direction from the tabs — Bijoy → Unicode, Unicode → Bijoy, or Avro → Bijoy. 2. Paste your Bangla text into the input box. 3. Click the 'Convert' button. 4. Copy the result with the 'Copy' button and use it anywhere. The entire process runs inside your browser — no text or file is sent to any server, so it is completely safe and fast.

Which fonts and methods are supported?

This tool fully supports Bijoy Classic encoding (SutonnyMJ font mapping), which is used in most offices, presses, and DTP work in Bangladesh. Text in SutonnyMJ, SutonnyMJ Bold, and other Bijoy-compatible fonts is converted correctly. You can also convert from Avro to Bijoy. Unknown or English characters are kept unchanged, so mixed Bangla-English text converts safely too.

When to use Unicode vs Bijoy?

Use Unicode for websites, blogs, Facebook, YouTube, email, Google Docs, mobile apps, and any online work. Use Bijoy (ANSI) for older DTP software like Adobe PageMaker and InDesign, certain legacy government office software, and print-press work where the SutonnyMJ font is still required. Because this tool converts both directions, it works for both old and new types of work.
