Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How many days are in each month of the revised Bangla calendar?+
Boishakh, Joishtho, Asharh, Shrabon, Bhadro and Ashwin have 31 days; Kartik, Ogrohayon, Poush and Magh have 30; Falgun has 29 days, or 30 when it falls in a Gregorian leap year; Choitro has 30.
When is Pohela Boishakh?+
Under the revised calendar, 1 Boishakh is always 14 April. For example, 14 April 2026 = 1 Boishakh 1433.
How do I get the Bangla year from the English year?+
Subtract 593 for dates on or after 14 April, and 594 for dates before it. For example, 17 September 2026 → 2026 − 593 = 1433 BS (2 Ashwin).
Why can dates before 2019 differ by a day?+
The current revised calendar has been in official use since 1426 BS (14 April 2019). The earlier rule was different, so old calendars or documents may differ by a day. The tool uses the current rule for every date and shows a warning for dates before 2019.
Which months make up the six Bangla seasons?+
Grishma (Boishakh–Joishtho), Borsha (Asharh–Shrabon), Shorot (Bhadro–Ashwin), Hemonto (Kartik–Ogrohayon), Sheet (Poush–Magh) and Boshonto (Falgun–Choitro).
Why is the Hijri date not shown?+
Hijri months begin with moon sighting, so they cannot be calculated reliably in advance. To avoid wrong dates, this tool shows only the Bangla and Gregorian calendars.

How the Bangla calendar is calculated
The Bangla Academy's revised calendar, used officially in Bangladesh, starts each year on 14 April (Pohela Boishakh). The first six months — Boishakh to Ashwin — have 31 days, Kartik to Magh 30, Falgun 29 (30 in a Gregorian leap year) and Choitro 30. So a Bangla year has 365 or 366 days, and each Bangla date falls on the same English date every year.
Example: for 17 September 2026 the Bangla year is 2026 − 593 = 1433. Counting from 14 April it is day 157 — past the 155 days of Boishakh to Bhadro — so it is 2 Ashwin. Thus 17 September 2026 = 2 Ashwin 1433 BS, a Thursday, in Shorot (autumn).
